Sometimes we're not looking for the truth. We're looking for evidence that our story is true.
Being biased in how you arrived somewhere doesn't mean you arrived somewhere wrong. It means the question is still open.

Confirmation bias
Confirmation bias is the tendency to seek out, interpret, or give greater weight to information that supports what we already believe — and to give less weight to information that doesn't.
This is not a defect. Prediction is one of the most useful things a mind does. Filtering an overwhelming world through existing models is how we act quickly, recognise danger, and make sense of incomplete information.
The cost appears when the filter becomes invisible. We stop noticing that we are interpreting, and start experiencing our interpretation as the world itself.
